Look guys. It’s Lookjames.com

I once had an idea to create a web directory of useful links to the web’s most important sites sorted by keywords. My twist was the use of actual newspaper headlines designed in an artistic manner like a collage on a website. For example, if the newspaper headline says “Car Crash Kills 9”, I would cut the word Car and scan it onto my computer and put it on an empty coloured canvas on Photoshop and link the word Car to a car website. I would do the same for many other headline keywords of various sizes, fonts and colours and link to different websites. Before long, I would soon create a whole web directory of useful links to the web’s important sites while also at the same time creating a mini piece of artwork.

I started work on the project, collected and scanned quite a significant number of headline words from various newspapers and put them all together on an image file. I designed the HTML and all, but alas I lost interest and did not proceed with the project.

It was quite a waste as I would not have known what would have happened had I did it. Well, recently I was sent a link to this pretty interesting web directory, Lookjames.com that reminded me of my past idea. It is simple and has all the important links in a visual manner to all the most important websites in one single page. Kind of like a mini bookmark of logos to the most common sites on one page.

The website says that it is a non-profit directory for UK’s everyday web needs. It does not have any affiliate links on the directory and index spots can’t be bought. I find this really noble that at this day and age people are willing to embark on a web project without going for profits. Anyway, this is a really simple and easy to use website and I really can’t stop thinking of my old project that I did not bring to daylight.
