FreeRice.com

Free Rice? Is there such a thing as a free lunch? Well not for us at least, but for millions of other poverty stricken people in the world, there are going to have free rice.

Ok, what am you talking about? How are they going to have free rice? Stop bullshitting.

I’M NOT! This is for real. This website - FreeRice.com gives out rice to poor people.

Well, I don’t believe a single shit that you say. Prove to me. This seems like one of those thousands of spam mail.

Basically the deal is like this. FreeRice.com is a website that allows users to improve their vocabulary by giving a word with 4 multiple choice answers for the user to choose. Like some sort of quiz-la.

The deal is, for every question that a user answers correctly, FreeRice.com will sponsor 10 grains of rice for the poor. Ain’t that cool?

But how can I be certain that the rice will really be sponsored and not just another scam?

Well, FreeRice.com is a sister site of Poverty.com, a world poverty site. It seems pretty legitimate and from the About pages of Poverty.com it states that it is run by a “private individual (John Breen) and has no political, religious, or corporate affiliation.”

freerice.jpg

OK, I found links to poverty.com from BBC and Washington Post website too. So I’m pretty sure what this guy is doing is for real. Else you can go burn in hell by eating up other people’s money.

Anyway, coming back to FreeRice.com it is actually an ingenious way of obtaining funding for the poor people. Users don’t need to pay a single cent. FreeRice.com generates its money from advertising by large corporations such as Fujitsu, American Express etc. The ads appear at the bottom of every vocab question.

This is a real clever and innovative trick to raise money. No solicitation of donations from the public. Kudos to FreeRice.com. Charities should really learn and make use of the free market to raise money too.

FreeRice.com really has a perfect attractive force to attract new visitors and frequent visitors to the site. You can really improve you vocab this way. Real good if you are preparing for you English, General Paper or SAT exams….

So whatcha waiting for? Hop on to FreeRice.com

Tobi.com - Online Fashion Boutique

Posted by Bobby Ong on Nov 11, 2007 in Reviews

Things have certainly changed a lot since the dot com bubble crash in the late 1990s. Back then many online retailers went under the carpet with their online retail stores, fashion boutique etc.

But things have changed a lot since then. Now consumers are more than willing to shop online, internet connections speed has increased tremendously, and internet broadband penetration rate has rise significantly.

And I sense the Internet is getting back to it old glory days of the late 1990s. I can see Internet stocks doing very well especially Google and also day by day many new Web 2.0 companies come along offering a unique online experience.

One such unique website that I encountered is Tobi.com. So what’s Tobi.com? Well, Tobi.com is a next generation online shopping boutique. It offers a unique shopping experience for the casual buyers. What I find best about Tobi is I can find the latest fashions and also speak to online stylist to help me choose what is best for me. It’s very personalised with a very high value shopping experience.

For example, I wanted to buy myself a pair of jeans – a specific type of jeans called the nudie. Clicking the search button brought me a list of the nudie jeans that I wanted. It is sorted nicely on the page with nice mouse-over hover for me to see a bigger picture of the jeans without having to click on the small jeans picture.

Clicking on the jeans brought me to an individual page offering the product with extensive information. Generally all the information that I need are there so that I’ll be certain that my shopping will not be a mistake. It has a very comprehensive sizing guide that certainly helps a lot in helping me make the right choice.

Besides offering jeans, Tobi also has coats, dresses, shoes, belts etc in a wide variety of brands. Also it carries this brand Seven for All Mankind. Haven’t heard of it before? Then it’s high time you check out Tobi to see what it’s all about.

Friendsation.com

friendsation.jpg

I know this is not a very popular site among us all yet because it has its niche selling point. Unlike other social networking site targeting the masses, Friendsation is designed for people to know others who have similar objectives of finding love.

It is really designed for this purpose with the Live Chat feature. Here people can communicate directly with the person on the other end and this definitely facilitates its aim of bringing people together.

Although this website is still in its Beta stage, this is one community that has a potential for growth. And unlike many other Dating websites, Friendsation is totally free. Lastly, besides the Chat section it also has a blogging section. Now, how cool can that be?

advertlets1.jpg

Advert-what-lets? I guess most of you will go that way. Or am I underestimating most of you? Probably you have all heard of the coolest company that have rocked this region ever since ermmm…..let me think…Google?

What’s so great about this website/company? Let’s see….if Google allows me to search for info on the internet easily…..Advertlets let me…..that’s right….Earn money like crazy! Lol…

Advertlets is a very young company founded by Josh Lim a few months back. If you are baffled, it’s a blog advertising network whereby Advertlets gather interested advertisers from this region and gives the opportunity to bloggers to display ads from them and earn money through it….Not only that, Advertlets also gives us bloggers to write reviews on websites/services and trust me, that’s an even faster way to earn money. :)

advertlets5.jpg

Well I like the paid review opportunity that Advertlets have as compared with its main competitor which does not have this feature. I’ve written one for RoomsDB and it’s a great way to boost up one’s earnings…Also, I like Advertlets coz it’s design is just rocking cool. Super impressive and smooth. It’s competitor? Bleak! Just wanna vomit when I look at their website…

My Singaporean bloggers, I know some of you have neither of these ads on your blogs yet. It’s high time you start having one on your blog and start earning some cash…

advertlets3.jpg

How does the ad look like? You can see it on the top right corner of my blog…And it comes with a cool survey function too…Click on the button shown in the pix on my blog ad and you will know why…

Driving

Posted by Bobby Ong on Aug 20, 2007 in Reviews

Someone help me get my driving license quick! I feel like a loser not having my driving license even though I’m already 18. Every time I go back to KL I see my friends driving around town, I feel jealous. They are driving their Hyundai, Peugeot, Volvo etc but me? I still have to rely on public transport.

It’s not that bad in Singapore coz of the top class public transport system here. But going back to Malaysia for holidays I’d really feel the need for a car. But the worst part is I have no time to learn driving till after my A-levels next year the earliest.

Now, for those having cars out there especially my friends in the US, I’m sure all of you need some Automobile Insurance Policies right? It’s illegal to drive on the road without the insurance policy right?

And from stories I heard from my parents, insurance policies differ from each user based on their driving record and all right? I remembered my uncle who did not want to claim a smashed up windshield from the insurance company so as to keep the premium low.

Anyway, the next time you want to get a quote for your automobile, why not try this company - Advantage Auto Quotes who sells all types of car insurance including. You can even get an Online Insurance Policy here. How cool can that be?

Blogsvertise.com

Posted by Bobby Ong on Aug 19, 2007 in Reviews

I was surfing around blogs last night and somehow, somewhere I stumbled upon some blog writing about Blogsvertise and how the blogger managed to earn some money out of it. So being my curious self, I followed the link and signed myself up for this service.

So how does this Blogsvertise service work? It is quite different from other paid-blogging services. Its competitors require you to go and compete for a limited number of opportunities for the blog task, but Blogsvertise on the other hand will assign the blogging task to you. We as bloggers don’t need to endorse the product or sevice but just have to mention and link back 3 times in our entry.

More importantly, how is the payout rate? Its websites state that payout rate for new accounts typically range from $4 to $25. However the average payout rate is around $5 to $15. To me that’s quite a nice worthwhile figure. So what are you waiting for?

RoomsDB.net rOcks On!

Posted by Bobby Ong on Jul 24, 2007 in Reviews

My dear friends,

One fine day, say if you decide to suddenly take the plunge down to Singapore to further your education (like me :)), what are the things that will make you spend time to worry on?

Choosing an educational institution like colleges, universities or polytechnics? Certainly. But what other things that you will have to factor in before relocating, the very thing that you have taken for granted all these years?

Is it a room and a bed to sleep in at the end of the day? Most definitely. But coming to a foreign location where you don’t even have much information on [tag]room rentals[/tag], how do you expect to get a value-for-money deal?

Or in other scenarios, if you are a local Singaporean/PR/foreign student/foreign worker looking for a new place to stay, at a bargain price by cutting out the middleman aka agents, where’s the best place to find good deals?

*jingles*

roomsdb3.jpg

Introducing roomsDB.net - rent a room in Singapore

Whether you are hunting for a master room, a common room, a big [tag]condo[/tag] or a [tag]HDB[/tag] apartment, you can find it all at this website. [tag]RoomsDB[/tag] provides free listing for room rentals in an easy manner. It’s so simple to use, any primary school student can navigate this site.

Clicking on the Read Offers button brings me to this page where there is a whole long list of rooms listing. And what’s even cooler is that when I hover my mouse on a particular listing, all the important particulars will come out without me needing to do any clicking.

roomsdb.jpg

I find this feature extremely useful and saved me a lot of time. Great rite?

Ok, what if I’m totally clueless about the market price of rooms in Singapore? Well, well, well. Our good webmaster/founder Sebastian had came out with this new average price feature where if I hover my mouse on the price tag, it’ll show me the average prices of similar rooms that had been posted on the website. At least with this feature I have a better safety net of not being conned into an expensive room rental agreement.

roomsdb.jpg

Now, for those who want to rent out their property, roomsDB also allows you a simple and easy way to list your property without any registration. Just click on the Post Offer button and you will be instantaneously transferred to a form where you’ll just have to fill in the particulars of the room that you want to rent out. It’s that easy and the best part is everything is complete FREE OF CHARGE!

roomsdb4.jpg

I like roomsDB. Sebastian, being a foreign student like me really knows what foreign students really need. Well, currently I’m still staying in a hostel, but once I’m done with hostel in a year’s time, I might need a room to stay here and roomsDB will be my #1 resource/research place.

Sebastian is great. He has the brains to realise that there is a huge demand for a user-friendly rooms rental portal and he has the guts and marketing technique to go all out to succeed. How I wish I can come out with some big idea like his and implement it…..

And he seems to be doing great. His site now lists Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong as microsites. And news is out that in a short time, Malaysia’s own version will be coming out soon too!
