Teachers’ Day

Finally it’s over. I can finally breath some fresh air after Teachers’ Day celebration. I thought organising Teachers’ Day is easy, considering the fact that I’ve done it before in Malaysia while I was Assistant Head Prefect 2 years back. Besides the event is just a few hours event….Some small scale event by my standard…But how wrong can I be…

In Malaysian schools, there’s no such thing as writing proposal for events. It’s just meetings to discuss what to do and then execute. Here, we have to discuss with our committee members, put those thoughts into paper, gain teachers’ approval before executing the plan. We did 3 proposals and at the end of 3 drafts we were just plain tired. Time was not on our side and we had to rush through almost everything.

Things are not as smooth flowing as it was supposed to be. In Malaysia I had many students eager to perform on Teachers’ Day. Too many till we had to cut out many performances, but over here, it’s hard to get students to perform. We approached the CCA groups a little too late and they couldn’t help us out cause they got themselves involved in some other service learning concert a few days earlier and they did not want to tax their members.

Anyway, on the concert itself we managed to secure a talented students dance group and a performance by the English teachers helped save the day. And not to mention, the great response we had from playing Charades in a big crowd. I’m simply amazed that the crowd responded well.

Although there are many glitches here and there, I’m really happy that everyone laughed, cheered and clapped during our event. It shows that the students are having a good time and it means that we are doing something right.

Too bad I couldn’t get any photos of the event in the school hall. Was too busy running around sorting things out….Anyway, for teachers’ gifts, just like what I’ve done in Malaysia 2 years back, I gave the idea that we should give the teachers a mug as their teachers’ day gift. This is the one part that I enjoyed the most. Searching for supplier on the internet, calling supplier, designing the mug, going down to the supplier’s office…..

This is my final design….

Teachers day mug

Anyway, this was supposed the design that was supposed to be printed on the mugs…I think students in Singapore will understand the joke, but Malaysians might not be able to get it….It’s down to the fact that my JC, AJC is very widely known as a mugger school

Last Week

Sorry for the long update. I was extremely busy last week. It was my killer week. In fact I wouldn’t be wrong to say that last week had been the toughest week on me since I arrived in Singapore.

I was stressed out with a lot of things. And just fyi, last week, on average I arrived back to hostel around 8.30pm. The earliest I reached back was 7pm while the latest was 10.15pm.

On one hand I had my float to complete. What float? Read here for some background info…

Then, the exco position of my college Students’ Council was announced. I ran for President but I didn’t manage to get the top position. I was selected Secretary instead. The position of the exco members was not vote based by the Councillors but was selected by teachers.

I have a serious big problem with me. My attitude of being confident gives the impression of me being snobbish and arrogant. I’m a little lost. Ask myself this question. How do you be a confident person without being arrogant?

The very attitude that brought me this far is bringing me down. Change is the key but how? 1000 questions, zero answer…

Anyway, that wasn’t the only things that made me go bonkers last week. I had rehearsals during the week for our Investiture that Friday.

And I was even made busier by the workload of being completing a proposal for the upcoming Teachers’ Day in my college. The proposals have been completed. It’s now down to implementation.

And lastly, I had some problems of getting a bus ticket back to KL for the 5 days break I’m enjoying now due to Singapore’s National Day celebration today. Tried almost all bus companies but couldn’t secure any tickets. Alas, I’m staying here to finish up my mountain high pile of homework.

With all those non-studies workload, I have not been concentrating on my studies. I have not been doing tutorials, have not been listening to teachers in college etc….Lucky now I have a short break. Since I couldn’t go back home but am stuck in hostel, I’m gotta finish up all my tutorials, and understand the stuff that was taught the past week and also of course update my lovely blog here….
